Hello everyone~
Chief Cloud Man is my 5th great-grandfather. I am looking to meet other descendants of his. My biggest hope is to locate a photo of him, or even a sketch. So far no luck, but I haven't given up yet. I am new here so any help or advice will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks...I tried the Google search...came up with another Cloud Man (Assiniboine)...wrong tribe..wrong date. Have been looking into Seth Eastman..nothing yet. It's either my intuition or just plain Native stubbornness that drives me to keep looking. :-)

Thank you...I hope so too. I can't help but feel that there is a photo or sketch of him somewhere...perhaps buried in a book with his name mistranslated or identified with the wrong tribe. If only we had a time machine to go back and let them know their grandkids will be looking for them someday. Or even just to tell them we love them...how cool would that be :-)
I'll keep looking.

Cherylk: I know where you're coming from. I and my siblings never got to meet my mom's or dad's parents who lived and died in Greece.all I have is a couple photos of my mom's mother. I am so glad I was able to talk to my mom for an hour and a half about hers and dad's family in Grece. I taped the session. My mom was so awed,as she had never seen a tape recorder before. she had me play that tape several times after I played it back for her. This was about three months before she died. I still have that tape. it took me four years of searching to find the info on my folk's families. and I was able to find her niece and nephew and their families and I now correspond with them frequently. My bro and his wife and son visit them in Greece about every two years. I would like to think that the spirits of my folks and their departed relatives are watching over us.

I see Cindy K. Coffin has fallen in a trap. I stated in my biography of Cloud Man that there were two of them, one a Mdewakantun and the other Wahpetun. In her Find a Grave narrative, I guess she didn't read my opening line or there about in the beginning of the "Massage from Garcia" 99% of what she has is for Wahpetun Mahpiyawicasta.

Wakanhotain....you wrote a biography of him? Is it published? That makes sense being two of them. That explains the two versions I've read of his death, and the way too many kids. I'm very confused now, but hope to seek the answers. I am related to the Cloud Man through Warren Simeon Woodbury . My information is he married Mary, the daughter of Taliaferro and The Day Sets.

Based on the experiences I've had, I truly believe they are.

hermin1,
Thank you...I am perusing that site now. Please let me say it is also a privilege to meet you too. Thank you for your time and effort in researching this family, to love them enough to keep their legacy alive. That is the most important thing to me.
How funny, the initial story of my heritage I was given by my great-aunt was completely incorrect. I was brought up believing Chief Little Crow (Taoyateduta) was my 5th great grandfather. That Lawrence Taliaferro married one of his daughters! (lol)
I never questioned it until I started researching it myself for a junior high school project in 1984. Just a quick once over of the events of 1862 told me there was no way in hell grandpa Little Crow would have allowed that. And I honestly doubt Taliaferro would even consider it. I don't recall ever running into the name Cloud Man at that time, but again, it was 1984! The resources of information simply weren't around.
I've always known Little Crow as grandpa, always have felt close to him. My son is named Nakota Little Crow. Turns out he is a spitting image of Wowinape/Thomas Wakeman. There is no question in my heart that Cloud Man and Little Crow are blood related. I am the granddaughter of Cloud Man yet I see Little Crow's face in my relatives and my own. They must look alike or are closely related. Again, I cannot tell you how much I appreciate your time and research on this family.

cherlk: Cloudman is not blood related to LittleCrow. Little Crow's aunt was wife of Joseph Renville,Sr.,son of Joseph Rainville and Miniyuhe.Old Eve,mother of Cloudman, was sister of Minyuhe. which of Warren Woodbury's children do you descend from?

Thank you all again for your help on this. I am not here to debate any facts, as I am still learning myself. I have to say I am disappointed by my own family in not knowing their own heritage, and apparently no research being done into it before me. I read this and thought of all of you www.tribalpages.com/family-tree/rplutes“We are the chosen. In each family there is one who seems called to find the ancestors. To put flesh on their bones and make them live again, to tell the family story and to feel that somehow they know and approve. Doing genealogy is not a cold gathering of facts but, instead, breathing life into all who have gone before. We are the storytellers. We have been called, as it were, by our genes. Those who have gone before cry out to us, "Tell our story!" So, we do. In finding them, we somehow find ourselves. How many times have I told the ancestors, "You have a wonderful family; you would be proud of us." How many times have I walked up to a grave and felt somehow there was love there for me? I cannot say. It goes beyond just documenting facts. It goes to who am I and why do I do the things I do. It goes to seeing a cemetery about to be lost forever to weeds and indifference and saying, "I can't let this happen." The bones here are bones of my bone and flesh of my flesh. It goes to doing something about it. It goes to pride in what our ancestors were able to accomplish, how they contributed to what we are today. It goes to respecting their hardships and losses, their never giving in or giving up, their resoluteness to go on and build a life for their family.”
